Graduation Day!
Parents, Carers and Grandparents gathered to watch with tearful eyes as our "big" pre-school children wished farewell to the all of the friends and teachers as they prepare to go to "big" school. We wish them all the best for P1. Ronnie McMaster from the department of education was kind enough to come and present each child with their graduation certificate, even though the children did make fun of his tie. However, this day was tearful in more ways than one. For it was also a day of recognition and thanks for our Chairperson Isobel Parke and our Secretary Anne Lowe who unfortunately have both had to step down from their positions with a heavy heart. Isobel Parke was key in the set up of Hansel and Gretel Pre-school and has spent her spare time championing the pre-school and the staff for the work that they do. She has been a credit to the pre-school and we would not be in the strong position that we are in now without the tireless efforts and support from Isobel. Isobel you will be sorely missed and thank you for everything you have done. Words are simply not enough. Anne also has been working away behind the scenes, ensuring that all the paper work is completed, forms filled in and keeping the pre-school ticking over by ensuring grant money and funds were in place. Anne we thank you so much for the work that you have put in, so much of which we take for granted. Both ladies will be sorely missed. Anne and Isobel were overwhelmed with everyone's kindness on Friday and they loved their gifts and wished that we passed on their thanks to everyone. |
Our Charity Coffee morning (or Bacon bap day!) on Friday 12th June in aid of the Northern Ireland Hospice raised a total of £404.00. Many thanks to all who helped out and helped support this event. We couldnt do it without you!

Parents/Carers, we urgently need your help!
Due to cuts in Early Years Funding we require volunteers to help with breaks and for staff cover. The reality is if a member of staff is unable to attend we may have no choice but to close for those mornings. If you can put your name on a rota to allow for us to cater for these days that would be fantastic. We currently need cover for breaks on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30 to 12.00. We also need to set up a rota to cover staff if and when required. If you feel that you could help either speak to a member of staff or Angela or Nicola. Or use the contact us link found on the above links. |

Coffee Morning!
What a great morning we had on Saturday 28th March. The support from the parents and community is vital to our group and we are so grateful for your ongoing commitment. We raised £173.00 from our Easter Hamper which was won by Elijah McMillen. Our coffee morning raised £481.00. Of course we cannot forget our fantastic frozen visitors "Anna & Elsa" aka Janna and Katie. Thank you girls and to Roy and Ann for capturing some photographs with the children and Anna and Elsa. |
|
Fun with fruit and vegetables!
The children have enjoyed exploring the taste, smell and textures of fruit and vegetables. They had the opportunity to bring a piece of fruit or vegetable to pre-school. They have also had the opportunity to investigate their properties and see how the various items behave in water for example do they float or sink. |
|
|
Chinese New Year!
On Friday 30th January we celebrated Chinese New Year! The children each had the opportunity to try some rice, noodles and prawn crackers. We also shared with them some of the things that happen at this time of year in the chinese community. All of these special celebrations help us introduce ethnicity and cultural diversity to the children. |

Granny Ann's Retirement Farewells
Today Friday 23rd January 2015 we gathered to wish 'Granny Ann' a fond farewell, to thank her for her time spent at Hansel and Gretel (13 years approx) and to wish her a long and happy retirement. She will sorely missed by staff, committee members, parents/carers and of course all of the little ones past and present. Ann is a valued member of staff and we hope she will miss us as much as we will miss her. Granny Ann has promised that she will pop in to see us all in the near future. Ann thank you so much for your time, love and commitment that you have shown to all of the children that have attended. You will be very missed by us all, but we know that you will enjoy spending time catching up with friends and of course your lovely family.

Wednesday 14 May saw the eagerly anticipated visit of the local PSNI community policing team to the pre-school. Our children each had the opportunity to "drive" the police van and have a look around the back in the "hold". Even though the sirens and lights must have driven the locals batty by the time the Glynn Primary school had finished all of the children had a blast!! A big thank you to all involved in organizing this event!!
The Giro I'talia has been and gone in the flash of a eye!! There was a terrific turnout in the Glynn and I'm sure all of the children have a story to tell. What a fantastic event!
